- particles of matter have spaces between them.
eg-when salt dissolves in water,the particles of salt get into the spaces between the particles of water but the level of solution doesn't rise.
- particles of matter are continuously moving
eg- when we burn incense stick its smell spread all over the room.
- particles of matter attract each other
eg- try to break each one of them by hammering,cutting or stretching.you will observe that it is difficult to broke it.

CHARACTERISTICS OF PARTICLES OF MATTER:

1) Particles of matter have space between them.
2) Particles of matter are tiny.
3) Particles of matter are continuously moving.
4) Particles of matter attract each other.

EXAMPLES:-

1) Mixing of salt in water. when it is dissolved it is disappeared and the level of the water remains the same. Here the salt occupies the space in b/w the molecules of water.

2) Diluting the potassium permanganate or dettol.

3) Lightened incense stick spreads the smell in the room.

4) Try breaking a iron nail,piece of chalk and a rubber band. In each cases u apply specific force to break them into 2. (But iron nail is hard to break)

(a) Spreading of smell of scent in a room:- Particles of matter are continuously moving.

(b) Water taking shape of the container:- Particles of matter attract each other.
