        Artificial selection is a type of breeding done in living organisms like animals and plants to solve a specific problem and produce desirable traits.

         This is also called selective breeding, where only the desired characters are developed and the specific problematic characters like disease traits, decreased lifespan or output etc are omitted while breeding.

         It also removes variation in population.

Examples of artificial selection:

  • Dogs and livestock animals.
  • In flowering plants like rose and in the Brassicas family like cabbage, kale, broccoli.
