Various evil practices such as sati , prohibition of widow remarriage and not allowing women to become literate existed. Also, various caste and social taboos were present in the society.

Raja Ram Johan Roy established Brahmo Sabha to eradict the evil practices in the Hindu religion.

19 century is considered as the age of women because many reforms took place that promote the well being of women's life.

Widows are considered to be outside the society. They were not allowed to participate in social functions as well as other programmes in their family. As per the society , their duty was to mourn their husband's death.

Veerasalingam Pantalu was from Andhra Pradesh . He was a greater protestor of child marriage and supported widow remarriage.
