Answer:

the answer is 5 metres

Step-by-step explanation:

As the farmer moves along the boundary of a square field of side 10 m in 40s

so if we calculate the time of moving 40 m then time = 4 x 40(as square has 4 sides)= 160s

and the farmer must have moved 35 metres in 2 min 20 seconds as the farmer moves 10 metres in 40 seconds

therefore we can say, he moves 5 metres in 20 seconds(40divided by 2)

so 2min 20 seconds means 140 seconds

so the farmer moves 35 metres in 2 min 20 seconds(as farmer moves 5 metres in 20 seconds and 2 minutes means 120 seconds

so 2 minutes 20 seconds(140 seconds))

so the magnitude of the displacement is the least distance from the initial position  to the final position which is 40 metres(perimeter of square(initial position)) - 35 metres

magnitude of displacement is 5 metres

Answer:

  • Farmer takes 40 s to move along the boundary. Thus, after 3.5 round farmer will at point C of the field. Thus, after 2 min 20 seconds the displacement of farmer will be equal to 14.14 m north east from initial position.
