ln a cyclic process, heat transfers are + 14.7 kJ, - 25.2 kJ. - 3.56 kJ and + 31.5 kJ. What is tile network for this cycle process?

For a cyclic process -

∮ Q = ∮ W

∮ Q = 147 –25.2 –3.56 + 31.5 = 149.74 kJ

So we get ∮ W = 149.74 kJ

So the system does 149.74 kJ of work per cycle.

PS - Why does ∮ Q = ∮ W?

First law can be written as -

∂ Q = dU + ∂ W

As the system executes a cycle, it ends up at the same state from where it started. This meas that as a cycle is finished, the internal energy change would be 0 as internal energy is a point function.

This leaves us with ∮ Q = ∮ W
