Logging is frequently driven by local people’s need for income and local economies needs for wood. Logging causes significant impacts to forest ecosystems and local communities, but sustainable logging has the potential to provide income, maintain standing forest, and prevent large scale deforestation. Hope this will help you!

Effects of large scale logging on forests-

Explanation:

Logging is a process in which trees are cut down to provide timber for construction and furniture industries. Large-scale indiscriminate logging has many detrimental effects on forests.

Following are some harmful effects that logging has on forest ecosystems-

1- Loss of habitat- Many trees act as nesting places for many birds and marsupials and provide canopy for ground dwelling animals. Removal of such trees has an adverse effect on animal life and a loss of biodiversity.

2- Soil erosion- The roots of trees hold the forest soil together which prevents soil erosion and loss of nutrients from the soil. Due to logging, the soil becomes lose and is carried away with the watershed.

3- Flooding and avalanche- Many trees act as barriers and breakers fr floods and landslides. When trees lining streams and mountainsides are lopped off, the risk of excessive flooding and avalanches increases which often results in the loss of animal life and destruction of property.

4- Climate change- Forests act as natural air purifiers and are a huge source of oxygen. The destruction of amazon forest in South America has caused a huge impact on the climatic conditions. there is decreased release of oxygen and carbon fixation due to loss of trees.

5- Loss of biodiversity- Many plants and animal species have gone extinct or are endangered due to excessive logging. The loss of habitat has forced many exotic species into extinction.
