Fatty acids are the higher members, from C12-C18, of aliphatic carboxylic acids found in natural fats in the form of esters of glycerol. A carboxylic group is nothing but a carbon compound containing a carbonyl group along with a carboxyl group, hence the name carboxylic acids. Carboxylic are widespread in nature.
