   x² +4x + 4 =1 
   x² +4x +3 = 0
   x = -1 and -2 
for log to be defined 
 x²+4x+4 > 0
 (x +2)² > 0 for all x∈R
again,
       x+2 ≠0 and  x+2 > 0  , x > -2 
hence x = -1 is the answer
