PHENOMENON:

• Osmosis is the phenomenon taking place in this experiment.

• The process of movement of water molecule from the region of lower concentrated solution to higher concentrated solution through semi permeable membrane is called osmosis.

OBERVATION:

• The level of water inside the potato is increased and there is decreased water level in the beaker.

• The increase in water level inside the potato is identified by the marking of pin.

INFERENCE:

• Sugar solution is hypertonic in nature in respect to water outside.

• Here, the potato acts as semi permeable membrane.

• Due to osmosis, the water molecules from the beaker enters through the flesh of potato and reaches the sugar solution and thus the level is increased inside it.

• The entry of water molecules take place till they become isotonic to each other.
