Looking into the history of either tea or coffee plantations in India, we can see how the life of workers in these plantations was similar to or different from that of workers in indigo plantations as under:
Similarities:
- The workers of tea plantations and Indigo Plantations were both had very pathetic work conditions.
- They both had low salaries and workers were provided with very poor living conditions.
- All the profits were earned by the plantation owners and the labours were not given any benefit.
Differences:
- The difference between the two labours was that the labour of tea plantations had to undertake the planters contract and Indigo planters had no contract
- Indigo planters cannot expand their area as indigo could only be cultivated in the fertile land. No such condition for tea planters
- Indigo Plantations required more manpower than tea plantations.
