Since it has a porous border, the chances of getting attacked or occupied by its surrounding countries are more, India has been facing security challenges from both its neighbours such as Pakistan and also insurgent groups that exist within the country. Thus, both traditional and non traditional security has been given priority.
With Pakistan, India has faced four major wars with Pakistan in years 1948, 1965, 1971 amd 1991. India also experienced a military war with China in year 1962.
