Losar festival is like a New Year festival for the people of Leh and Ladakh. According to an earlier story when King Jamyang Namgyal of Ladakh was going on a journey against the Balti forces during the wintertime. He was given advice of not taking the journey before the next year.  

The King decided to follow the advice and so he decided to forward the New Year celebration in Ladakh by two months that is why Losar is celebrated.
