LpG is a colourless gas. A small quantity of mercaptans sulphur containing compound is added to cylinder of Lpg . Why do you think this is done

The Mercaptan is added in the LPG cylinder to keep a track of the odour.


In case there is any leakage in the gas cylinder, the smell of Mercaptan will also leak out that will make the person know.


This is mainly done because LPG is colourless and odourless gas that will not make you know in case of a leakage.
