After revolt of 1857 , British decided to give opportunities for Indians to give Civil service examination. There by the first Indian to be a civil servant was Satayandrenath Tagore . He was selected in 1863 .

Then gradually other Indians also started to appear in the civil service examinations . Such as Ramesh Dutt passed in 1871 and Behari Lal Gupta also in 1871 .

In Assam the civil servant was Ananda Ram Baruah . He appeared in 1872 .

This results a positive impact of thinking among Indian people. Indians were encouraged by these great people. They also started to try . Thus , in India also growth of the civil service started
