The parallels of latitudes play a vital role in locating coordinates on earth's surface with longitudes.

There are following main features of the parallels of latitudes:-

1) All parallels forms a circle with poles as the center.

2) The diameter of the circle of decreases from equator towards poles, hence the maximum circumference of these latitude parallels is at equator and minimum at poles.

3) The latitude of the parallels would depend on the angle formed by the centre of the earth to the circumference of the parallels with the horizontal plane. Thus zero degree indicate equator and 90° indicate the poles.
