He bought 2 pairs of jeans in 960

or 1 pair of jeans in 960/2 =480

one he sold on 4 % loss

480 - 4\% \\ 480 - \frac{4}{100} \times 480 \\ 480 - \frac{480}{25} \\ 480 - \frac{96}{5} \\ 480 - 19.2 \\ 460.8

and second in 8 % profit

480 + 8\% \\ 480 + \frac{8}{100} \times 480 \\ 480 + \frac{2}{25} \times 480 \\ 480 + \frac{192}{5} \\ 480 + 38.4 \\ 518.4

total transaction

518.4 + 460.8= 979.2

total profit = 979.2- 960 = 19.2

profit %

 \frac{19.2}{960} \times 100 \\ \frac{192}{9600} \times 100 \\ \frac{192}{96} \\ 2\%
