Hey!☺️

Magnesium atom is electrically neutral but magnesium ion is electrically charged because:-

⏩Atoms are electrically neutral because they have equal numbers of protons (positively charged) and electrons (negatively charged).

⏩If, on the other hand, it loses one or more electrons, it now carries a net positive charge and is "cationic."

Therefore magnesium ion is cationic as it loses 2 electrons and hence is electrically charged.

Hope it helps❤️

Magnesium atom is electrically neutral because it has number of electrons and protons so they will nullify each other's effect. Thus making magnesium element neutral.

But here atomic number of magnesium is 12

Therefore it has 2 electrons in its outermost shell.

So to complete its octet it loses 2 electron

Now number of protons is 12 whereas number of electrons is 10

Therefore it is now positively charged thus it charged.
