We know that when metal reacts with acid it gives out salt, water and carbon dioxide.

So when magnesium carbonate is reacted with HCl, it gives out Mg(CO3)2, H2O and CO2.

The reaction is:

Mg(CO3)2 + HCl —> MgCl2 + H2O + CO2
