"Magnetic field lines tend to contract longitudinally"&"Magnetic field lines tend to dilate laterally" Explain these separately.?

Magnetic field lines are always perpendicular to electric field lines .


It only shows that the magnetic lines of force are crowded near the poles where the magnetic field strength is high and they are far separated  near the centre of the magnet, and far away from poles, where the magnetic field is weak.
