ANSWER:

  • Age of Ramya = 4.

  • Age of Mahesh = 8.

GIVEN:

  • Mahesh is twice as old as  Ramya.

  • Three years ago, his  age was five times as Ramya's  age.

TO FIND:

  • Their present age.

EXPLANATION:

Let the age of Ramya be x and the age of Mahesh be y.

y = 2x

y - 3 = 5(x - 3)

y - 3 = 5x - 15

y - 5x = - 12

Substitute y = 2x

2x - 5x = - 12

- 3x = - 12

x = 4

Substitute x = 4 in y = 2x

y = 2(4)

y = 8

HENCE MAHESH IS EIGHT YEARS OLD AND RAMYA IS 4 YEARS OLD.

VERIFICATION:

y - 3 = 5(x - 3)

Substitute x = 4 and y = 8

8 - 3 = 5(4 - 3)

5 = 5(1)

5 = 5

HENCE VERIFIED.
