Functions of Lenticle :

1. A lenticel is a porous tissues consisting of cells with large intercellular spaces in the periderm of the secondarily thickened organs, on the stems of wood plants and roots of dicotyledonous flowering plant.

2. Lentil formation usually begins beneath stomatal complex during primary growth preceding the development of first periderm.

3. It functions as a pore, providing medium for the direct exchange of gases between the internal tissues and atmosphere.

4. As stems and roots mature, lenticel development continues in the new bark or root.

5. Lenticels also present in potatoes tubers. In wet soil, lenticel on tubers proliferates, while in dry soil it becomes smaller.
