YSR Congress Party’s main objective is people’s welfare. The party prepared specific plans for the welfare of weaker sections. YSRCP’s objective, agenda, plan and program are to follow the welfare path shown by the late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and ensure that all welfare schemes reach the weaker sections.

Social welfare:

YSR Congress Party was formed only to ensure welfare of weaker sections. The party would do everything possible to ensure that all groups, which had remained backward for all these years, would lead a respectable life in the society. YSRCP’s policy is that those in power should provide maximum help to those belonged to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, minorities and economically weaker sections. The party wants to ensure equitable share in power, employment opportunities and financial resources to them in the path shown by YSR.

BC Welfare:

It is a matter of faith for the YSRCP to ensure welfare of BCs who constitute a majority in the state population. The party believes that if there is a will, equitable share can be given to BCs in political power.

YSR Congress made a proposal that all parties should honour BCs’ ratio in population while fielding candidates in local body elections. The party exposed the conspiracies of the Congress and the Telugu Desam to cause injustice to BCs by citing the need to make Constitutional amendment and legal problems on the issues. The party reminds all other political parties of the 2006 Panchayat elections conducted by YSR by giving 34% reservation to BCs, 18.3% to SCs and 8.25% reservation to STs.

Later, in the wake of judgment given by the Supreme Court relating to Karnataka, the state government failed to initiate action to do justice to BCs and was forced to postpone local body polls.

Telugu Desam, which claims the support of BCs, also kept quiet on the issue. If total reservation would not have to cross 50%, then BCs would only get 23.45% share. YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy proposed that all parties should field BC candidates in those constituencies reserved for them in proportion to 34% quota. However, the Congress and the Telugu Desam misinterpreted the proposal and failed to do anything.

Neglect of BCs:

The Congress government neglected BCs after the death of YSR. Several points
