maize, sugarcane, jowar have two types of roots-those that grow underground and those that grow above the ground from the stem . what you think is the use of these roots to the plant?

Roots which grows underground transport water and minerals from the soil and transport them to the other parts of a plant where as roots which grows above the ground. These roots are called stilt roots. Their primary function is to provide support to the plant.

These roots appear from the lower nodes of the stem.
