Answer:

Respecting our elders should be a courtesy ingrained in every one of us. Common grace and manners are to treat elders with dignity and respect. Sadly, these important dignities have been largely forgotten in today’s society.Ways to Honor Our Elders

The Information Age has put technology at the forefront of human communication; making today a little less personal than days of the past. Between bustling schedules of juggling family life and work, in addition to reaching people through cyberspace as the main mode of connection; manners have somehow been forgotten. Instead of treating our elders with the appreciation and respect they deserve, many are often either too busy or simply dismiss them and their contributions to community and family.

Ways to Honor Our Elders

Senior citizens have a lifetime of experience. They comprise a generation that has survived The Great Depression, World War II, Vietnam and The Great Recession. These sage Americans have a thing or two to teach us about enduring change and handling life’s adversity.

These are certain rules, if followed by the elders, will make life easier for everyone, in the long run.

  1. Have an exercise routine- This is especially important for people who are senior citizens. Exercising everyday keeps the body fit, particularly the joints.
  2. Interact with children- Interaction with children keeps one young at heart. It adds excitement to otherwise dull lives. Also, children get to learn something from the seniors.
  3. Be socially active- It means keeping in touch with the neighbours, meeting the friends living nearby and calling friends who live away. Such interactions make elders feel loved and connected and keep them safe from depression.
  4. Keep a neutral attitude towards new technology- As new technology and gadgets are introduced every few years, the elders soon get left behind in the race. They find it difficult to appreciate such new developments. However, being critical of new technology will only lead to unpleasantness. Instead, being neutral or even accepting it as a part of life improves the quality of life. For instance, a smartphone can help the elders video chat with loved ones far away, a Fitbit can help monitor their health or an app can play their favourite songs or movies.
  5. Seek medical help when needed- Many elderly people tend to dismiss health issues as unimportant. It is the smaller issues that can later snowball into major concerns. Therefore, elders should not hide health problems, but should be open about it, to get treated in time.

All these rules have to do with keeping the mind and body in a good shape.
