Canal irrigation in India is widely practiced in Northern part of India mostly in the Northern plain regions like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and Rajasthan.  

Some of the merits of Canal irrigation system in India are

• It saves the seasonal crops from droughts.
• Sediments that brought by the canals are found improving the fertility of the soil.

Tank Irrigation in India:

Tank irrigation is mostly found in India in large numbers than any other part of the world. Tank irrigation in India is followed by the areas which get uneven rainfall which are mostly seasonal.
