blaze from a log-fire in the hearth. A storm was raging outside. I could hear the
rain beating against the window. Now and then I was disturbed in my reading by
the distant rumbling of thunder. I was warm and comfortable and very pleased
to be indoors on such a wild night. Suddenly there was a loud knock at my door.
Who could be coming to see me on a night like this?' I wondered.”
