ⓐ These days agriculture has grown. Farmers are using new methods and new agricultural implements for different agricultural practices. These new methods are beneficial and effective and also require less time and labour.
Some of them are :
♦ Farmers are using cultivators for ploughing the soil. This cultivators are driven by tractors and are used in large agricultural fields.
♦ Farmers are using seed-drill for sowning seeds. It saves both time and labour. It also sows the seeds in peoper depth and distances from each other.
♦ Farmers are using new and specialised fertilisers, pesticides, weedcides and fungicides which are very effective and help to increase crop production.
♦ Farmers are using new methods of irrigation such as drip irrigation and sprikler system which require less time and labour.
♦ Farmers are using combines. This machine is used for both harvesting and threshing which saves both time and labour.
♦ Farmers are storing grains in silos where the grains can be stored for longer period of time and the grains can be protected from pests and microbes.
ⓑ The sources of irrigation are water bodies mainly ponds, dams, rivers, lakes, wells, etc.
The water from the water bodies are carried through connected pipes to the agricultural fields where it is irrigated.
Water is irrigated in two methods :
♢ Traditional methods : These methods were used in early days which takes both time and labour.
e.g.
Moat
Dhekli
Chain Pump
Rahat
♢ Modern Methods : These methods are used now-a-days which donot require much time and labour.
e.g.
Sprinkler System
Drip Irrigation
