Explanation:

• The family looks selfish and cold.
• When his father returns, he drinks weak tea and eats old food. It is possible to provide fresh food to returning earners, even the simplest and poorest foods. If he has a wife, she doesn't seem to care much about his well-being.
• The poet clearly states that the children have refused to share any lighter moments or conversations with their father.
• Probably the mother's behavior has made the children also treat him this way.
• If it is poverty they are facing then the family seems selfish in demanding he works for them but not even offering their company or kindness in return.
