Answer:
In childhood, freedom for Mandela was restricted to a personal level. He thought freedom means to be able to earn basic amenities of life, to have a decent living with facilities enough to feed and ensure well-being of his family.
When he grew up he realised, freedom is much more than just securing a better future and lifestyle for family. He thought of freedom with a broader perspective now. He wanted to do something to relieve his people of sufferings and poverty.
He made an ideal society for people to live peacefully on their own terms and with liberty. He had fought and raised his voice to outcast and removed the discrimination among people based on racial grounds, gender and other terms.
