ANSWER: Mangal Pandey is a soldier in Indian army at Barrackpore cantt at Merrut.

He is only person for start of 1857 revolt. He was not agreed to the britishers policy of enfied rifles.

He refused to use the greased cartridges of rifles as rhey were to be open with mouth and it is made up of flesh of cow and pigs. As he is a sacred hindu, he was not agreed to open as for him cow is sacred animal.

So ,He started the revolt against britishers on 10 may 1857.
