Mangalore and Chennai lie on the same latitude yet receive rainfall during different period of the year because Mangalore is in the western side which experience Arabian sea wind for rainfall which Aravalis alignment is parallel to rain bearing Southwest monsoon.But Chennai is in the Eastern side of India which experiences rainfall from Bay Of Bengal wind.
