SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • Manoj and Shiva , who are colleagues in an office have their monthly savings in the ratio of 2:3.

  • Manoj spends two-third of his income every month.

  • The ratio of their monthly income is 3:4

TO DETERMINE

The ratio of their expenditures

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the ratio of monthly income of Manoj and Shiva is 3:4

Let the monthly income of Manoj and Shiva is 3x and 4x respectively

Again it is given that Manoj and Shiva have their monthly savings in the ratio of 2:3

Let monthly savings of Manoj and Shiva is 2y and 3y respectively

Then their expenditure is 3x - 2y and 4x - 3y respectively

So by the given condition

 \displaystyle \sf{3x - 2y =  \frac{2}{3} \times 3x }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 3x - 2y =  2x }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: x  =  2y  }

So

Expenditure of Manoj = 3x - 2y = 6y - 2y = 4y

Expenditure of Shiva = 4x - 3y = 8y - 3y = 5y

Hence the required ratio of their expenditures

= 4y : 5y

= 4 : 5

Answer:

                            MANOJ                   SHIVA

SAVINGS                2x                          3x

INCOME                  3y                          4y

Let Manoj's Income be 300

Expenditure Of Manoj = 2/3 * 3(300) =600

I - E = S    I-S =E

SO it becomes   3y-2x = 600

2x=300 x=150

y=300  x=150

900-300=600

1200-450 = 750

600:750 = 4:5
