Every year Patna the state capital experience an extreme heat wave conditions.

Death due to heat wave is reportedly quite high and is in increasing trend with increasing of intensity of heat wave.

A heatwave is said to be prevailing  and extreme when the maximum temperature of a place remains above 40° Celsius in prolong duration and it is always found to remain at least 5° above the normal temperature of Patna.

Sometimes it is found to  becomesdeadly and severe when the mercury level is more than 7°C above the normal.

Normal Life is drastically effected due to heat waves.

According to the feedback received from the Patna Met office, Patna and Gaya cities are always in the grip of a heatwave and the condition is likely to remain more or less the same during day and night continuously.

Patna always experienced a maximum temperature of 45°C in peak summer and death toll reach as high as 30 to 40 persons on an average.

Main reason is poor afforestation programme and planning.

At present only about 7 percent of the patna city is afforested and no new afforestation programme is not coming up.

Only remedy to mitigate heat waves is to plan intensive afforestation programme.
