Answer:

Let the present age of Mary's sister be x

Given that the present age of Mary is twice that of her sister

∴Present age of mary is 2x

Age of Mary after 5 years = 2x + 5

Age of Mary's sister after 5 years = x + 5

Given that in 5 years time , Mary will be 2 years older than her sister.

ie, 2x + 5 = 2 + x + 5

ie, 2x + 5 = x + 7

ie, 2x - x = 7 - 5

ie, x = 2

∴The present age of Mary = 2x = 2 × 2 = 4 years

The present age of her sister = x = 2 years
