Answer:

1.225 m/s² (1/8th of acceleration due gravity of Earth)

Explanation:

Acceleration due to gravity of any planet is given by: g = GM/R²

Where

  • g = Acceleration due to gravity
  • G = Universal Gravitation constant
  • M = Mass of planet
  • R = Radius of planet

Let acceleration due to gravity of Earth be:

  • g = GM/R²

Then, acceleration due to gravity of the given unknown planet is:

  • g' = G(2M) / (4R)² = 2GM/(16R²) = GM/(8R²)

Divide both the equations

g'/g = [GM / (8R²)] / [GM / R²]

g'/g = 1/8

g' = g/8

g' = (9.8 m/s²) / 8

g' = 1.225 m/s²
