so side of footpath square will be x+2*3

=x+6

area of pool = x^2

area of footpath = (x+6)^2-x^2

the area of the footpath is times that

5/4 of the pool

5/4 x^2 = (x+6)^2-x^2

5x^2 = 144 +48 x

5x^2 -144 -48 x=0

gives root x=12 or -12/5

neglect the negative value

area of pool will be 12*12= 144 sq cm
