Materialistic things don't really last. What matters most are the people we care about and the values we live with . explain this with reference to the poem 'Not the marble, Nor the Gilded Monuments'.

Statues and ornate monuments raised by rich and the powerful to immortalise themselves, are mere futile materials. The ravages of time on these monuments defeat the very purpose of building them and rob their architects of the pleasure of being remembered by the generations to come.

However the great and noble souls leave an indelible impact on the fellow beings and they're remembered by the posterity for a long time to come.

Thus people are more important and valuable than futile infrastructures meant just to symbolise somebody's glory for a nine day span.
