MATERIALS Sugar, water, yeast, vinegar, bicarbonate, balloon, purple cabbage and glass glasses, tea spoons and soup bowls. PROCESS 1 The first experiment will consist of fermenting sugar to obtain ethyl alcohol or ethanol. We will add ten tablespoons to half a liter of water, stirring until dissolved. (hot water favors dissolution). We will observe its color by adding cabbage juice to the transparent solution of sugar water. Later we will add a yeast solution (half a tablespoon of yeast tea in half a small glass of water). It must be completely dissolved so that it is transparent. Later we add this solution to the one that contains sugar, stirring constantly. Once finished adding, we keep the resulting solution in a bottle (it can be mineral water), and we wait until Thursday where we will add cabbage juice and observe its color. PROCESS 2 The second experiment will consist of repeating what was done in terms of mixing vinegar with bicarbonate, only that we will first add the vinegar (ten tablespoons), to an empty bottle, we will add three tablespoons of bicarbonate tea placed inside the balloon, then we will put the balloon with baking soda on the top of the bottle, holding it up. The bicarbonate will fall on the vinegar causing the reaction. The balloon must be firmly grasped.
