Question 1: Ganesh puts a fence around three sides of his garden, AB, BC and CD.

(1). Finding the cost of the fence:
AB = CD = 35 m ...... [opposite sides of a rectangle]
BC = 12 m
Therefore,
The length of the fence used by Ganesh is,
= sum of 3 sides of the rectangular garden
= AB + BC + CD
= 35 + 12 + 35
= 82 m
If the per meter cost of the fence is Rs. 7.50
Then, the cost of 82 m of fence = Rs. 7.50 × 82 = Rs. 615
Thus, the cost of the fence used by Ganesh to fence the 3 sides of his garden is → Rs. 615
(2). Finding the area used for each part:
Let's assume,
"5x" → the area used for lawn
"3x" → the area used for flowers
"4x" → the area used for vegetables
The total area used by Ganesh in his garden for a lawn, flowers & vegetables = 396 m
So, we can form an equation as:
∴ 5x + 3x + 4x = 396
⇒ 12x = 396
⇒ x =
⇒ x = 33
Thus,
The area used for lawn = 5x = 5 × 33 = 165 m
The area used for flowers = 3x = 3 × 33 = 99 m
The area used for vegetables = 4x = 4 × 33 = 132 m
