Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is one of the most influential and iconic leaders in the history of India and mankind. He is also known as the architect of Nonviolence movement which later inspired and influenced the whole world. Fondly called Bapuji ,he played an instrumental role in gaining India’s Independence from the British in 1947.

Born to Karamchand Gandhiji and Putlibai Gandhi on 2 October 1869, Gandhiji did his initial schoolings and passed matriculation from Gujarat and went to England to pursue his studies in law. He later went to South Africa to practice law and quickly  realized the shocking social situations in South Africa and the issues related to social discrimination and apartheid. While continue to practice law in South Africa ,In 1906, Gandhi organized his first mass civil-disobedience campaign, which he called Satyagraha, in reaction to the  government’s new restrictions on the rights of Indians in South Africa. In 1914 , He returned to India, where movements for independence from British was already initiated by several great leaders across the country. Gandhiji took the key leadership role and spearheaded the freedom movement which was well supported by other leaders like Subhash Chandra Bose,Nehru, Sardar Patel  etc. He masterminded several nonviolent campaigns against the British like the Salt Satyagraha, Civil disobedient movement, Quit India movement etc which gained mass support across India. The culmination of these massive people movement resulted in the decision of the British to quit India in 1947. As a mark of respect Gandhiji was called Mahatma by Ravindranath Tagore  and was  given the honorary title ‘Father of the Nation’ .He was assassinated on 30 January 1948. Gandhi’s commitment to non-violence and his belief in simple living—making his own clothes, eating a vegetarian diet and using fasts for self-purification as well as a means of protests, continue to inspire people and have been a ray of hope for oppressed and marginalized sections throughout the world .

Good morning respected Principal mam, worthy teachers, seniors and my dear friends. Today, I shreya of std 9 A, present here to deliver a short speech on the great leader of our country 'Mahatma Gandhi'.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 in a respectable vaishya family of Porbandar state in kathiabad. His parents were well- to- do people, his father Karamchand uttamchand Gandhi held high and responsible post in the Porbandar state.

He received his early education at the local primary and high school. After passing an entrance examination he went to England to qualify himself for legal profession. He was truthful and honest from is very childhood he was very careful about his character.

Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest son of India. Nay, he was one of the greatest man in the world has ever produced. He was great not because of his politics, his greatness lies in his moral outlook of life.

Mahatma Gandhi succeeded in bringing about the political celebration of India, he wanted to see the Supremacy of truth and nonviolence in the world world. Unfortunately future of the world can be safe only when you choose the path shown by him. Any other course is perilous.

He was shot dead while going to attend a prayer meeting on the 30th January 1948 at Delhi, India. The whole world is poorer today an account of his death.
