Mauna Loa is an active volcano and Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano, however it can erupt again.

Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are the two volcanoes that form the Hawaiian Islands. They both are considered as dormant volcanoes until 1952.  The mount Mauna Loa became active in 1952 while Mauna Kea remains as dormant.

Dormant volcanoes are said to be quiet volcanoes but have the capacity to erupt some day and cause destruction.

Mauna Loa erupted back in 1984 and 1950
