Both Mbali and Nqabisa will walk to the lake on the same day every 12th day.

Given:

Mbali walks to the lake every third day

Nqabisa walks to the lake every fourth day

To find:

How often they will walk to the lake on the same day

Solution:

Given Mbali walks to the lake every 3rd day

Starting from the 3rd day of a month the order of days that Mbali walks to the lake is the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th ... so on.

Here 3, 6, 9, 12 .... are multiples of 3

Given Nqabisa walks to the lake every 4th day

Starting from the 4th day of a month the order of days that Mbali walks to the lake is the 4th day, 8th day, 12th day ... so on.

Here 4, 8, 12, .... are multiples of 4

So to find the day that they both walk to the lake we need to find a common multiple of 3 and 4

As we know

3 multiples are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, and 36.....

4 multiples are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, and 36...

Common multiples of 3 and 4 are 12, 24, and 36 ...

Therefore,

Both Mbali and Nqabisa will walk to the lake on the same day every 12th day.
