mean of 50 observation are found to be 80.4. but later on it was discovered that 96 was misreaded as 69 at one place. find the correct mean.

Answer: 80.94

Mean= Sum of observation/ no. of observation

Therefore in this question,

80.4 = Sum of observation/ 50


Rearranging: sum of observation = 80.4x 50 = 4020

Now we just subtract the mistaken number and add the real number...


4020-69+96= 4047


And divide it again to find the correct mean


Mean = 4047/ no. Of observation

= 4047/ 50

=80.94
