NCERT based Answer for Class 11 Biology Students

Senescence:

 Senescence is a period between complete maturity and death of an organ or organism.

 During this period, a gradual deterioration occurs in its structure by accumulation of waste metabolic materials and decrease in dry weight.

Abscission:

 Abscission is shedding of leaves, fruits or flowers by a plant due to change in hormonal balance.

 A separation (abscission) layer is developed within the region of attachment.

 The middle lamella between certain cells in this layer is digested by enzyme cellulase and pectinase, making the region soft and weak.

 The organ from plant is then easily detached whenever there is rainfall or wind.

 Abscisic Acid (ABA) plays an important role in this process.
