☆ Corrosion of metals

the process in which metal is eaten up by the action of different substances is basically termed as corrosion.

when an object made up of iron is left in an open place for a few days , it get covered by the reddish brown substance which is rust. and this process is termed as rusting of iron.

Iron + Oxygen + water\xrightarrow{Gives} Iron oxide ( rust )

similarly when the copper object remains in the damp area for few days , it loses its shine and covered by a green substance. the green coating is of copper hydroxide and copper carbonate.

Silver objects are kept in air , they get tarnished and gradually turn black due to the formation of silver sulphide.
