When you mix a solute and a solvent, a solution is formed. This is a homogeneous mixture.Water for example is a polar solvent and it dissolves ionic salt which is polar. When sodium chloride is dissolved in water, the attraction force between the molecules first weakens, then the ions are surrounded by water molecules.BM
