Media influence on teenagers

9-18 years

A AShare

Media influences do play a part in shaping teenage behaviour. When your child is aware of media influence, she’ll be able to handle media pressure better.

Concerns about media influence on teenagers

It’s normal to be worried about the influence of media on your child.

Media influence on teenagers can be deliberate – for example, advertising is often directed at children and teenagers. This means that children and teenagers are increasingly conscious of brands and images. You’re not alone if your child has pestered you to buy the next ‘in’ thing!

Media influence can be direct or indirect. An example of this might be the increasing sexualisation of content in advertising, magazines, television shows and music videos. These media products often show ‘sexy’ women with unrealistic body types. Other kinds of media feature violent imagery and coarse language – for example, video games and song lyrics.

These media influences can suggest to teenagers that these are ‘normal’ ways to look and behave.

Most parents would think that the exposure to media has spoiled the next generation......
Meanwhile, some say that media has created a revolution which I believe is absolutely right.
We should know that media exposes us to both good and bad thing. 'We' are the ones who choose. It's our choice to be good or bad.
Media is a medium to create a healthy environment. It helps many people to make the right decision....
Teenage.... the most beautiful and the 'frustrating' period of our life. 'Beautiful' because we learn many things and we discover ourselves. 'Frustrating' because, in the process of discovering ourselves, we nearly lose our mind. Here is where media plays a great role. It can be a guide to us. When we watch movies, we get an idea of how to deal with problems. I'm not saying we should believe everything the media says... we should take what we 'and' our parents think is good and leave the rest out....
Addiction to media is a grave issue nowadays.... Why? Because of depression....
Media has created an 'expectation ' in parents which was not there before... When they see a child got state first or something, they expect their child to do the same which leads to changing schools, tution, etc which finally turns to pressure. Teenagers are the ones who are most affected by this. The point is, media has caused both a revolution and destruction. Now it's up-to us to choose the path we go in.

This is just a casual essay... not a formal one... hope it helps....
