Given :-

  • 20, 10, 15, 42, 29 and 35

To find :-

  • what is the median?

Solution :-

Number of observations (n) ↠ 6

first of all we arrange the observations in an ascending order

⇒ 20, 10, 15, 29, 35 and 42.

Here observe that No' of observations (n) is even so,

formula :- { n/2th term + ( n/2 + 1 )th term/2 }

Now, putting the values in the above formula we get,

⇒Median ↠{ 6/2th term + (6/2 + 1)th term/2 }

⇒ Median ↠ { 3th term + 4th term/2 }

As we seen in the given series 15 is the 3th term and 29 is the 4th term .

Now, put the values, we get

⇒ Median ↠ 15 + 29 /2

⇒ Median ↠ 44 /2

⇒ Median ↠ 22

hence, the median is 22
