- Gmelina arborea, also known as gamhar in local dialects, is a fast-growing member of the Lamiaceae family of deciduous trees. It goes by the English names beechwood, gmelina, goomar teak, Kashmir tree, Malay beechwood, white teak, and yamane.
- In India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the southern regions of China, Gmelina arborea grows naturally. It can be found between sea level and 1,500 metres in elevation (5,000 ft). In Brazil, Gambia, Honduras, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, Malawi, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Sierra Leone, it has been widely introduced as fast-growing timber trees since the 1960s. Additionally, gardens and avenues have it planted.
- The Lion Throne, the most significant and last remaining of Myanmar's eight royal thrones, is made of Gmelina arborea wood and is currently on display at the National Museum in Yangon.
- Gmelina arborea is indigenous to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the eastern countries of Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as southern China. It is often planted in tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and America as a fast-growing tree.
