Ans to your second part of the question is :-

1) plant height i.e tall(TT)and dwarf(tt)

2)colour of the flower i.e voilet (WW) and white (ww).

When he crossed plants with round (RR) and wrinkled (rr) seeds to produce progeny, he observed ,

F1 generation, RR x rr = Rr

He observed that all plants produced in the F1 generation had round seeds.

Only of one parental traits was observed.

But when he got the plants of F1 generation to reproduce by self - pollination, to form the F2 progeny , he observed that one fourth or 25% of the plants produced had wrinkled seeds and the rest had round seeds.

2) Mendel used other contrasting characters like tall and short plants , white and violent flowers etc.
